The Economic Outlook for Native American Gaming
- Native American gaming has come a long way since the enactment of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act in 1988.
- While the performance of gaming has varied widely, it has become an important source of revenue and/or jobs for many tribes.
- Native American gaming has become a unique and important segment of the gaming industry and is on pace to become the largest segment in the near future.
- However, in recent years, Native American gaming has experienced somewhat of a slowdown, much like the general economy and other casino gaming segments.
- Dr. Alan Meister will present the results of his newly released research highlighting the recent performance of Indian gaming. He will discuss trends and compare and contrast Indian gaming with other segments of the gaming industry. In addition, Dr. Meister will examine the future outlook for Indian gaming.

The Possible Effects the New Administration and the 115th Congress will have on Indian Country’s Sovereign Immunity
- Will the new administration establish long sought after new federal policies that allow tribal governments the same opportunities enjoyed by other governments in the federal system to help them create economic development projects which will help the people on their reservations?
- Last year the 114th Congress once again disregarded the constitutional status of Indian tribes as separate distinct sovereigns with its decisions that the National Labor Relations Act applies in Indian Country.
- What are best practices tribal enterprises should be adopting for union avoidance in light of the court’s decision until it can be amended if ever?
- What stance will the new administration have on the U.S. Tax Code and the overall federal tax policy as it applies to Indian country?
- What other new laws, legal matters, amended regulations and court decisions are coming that will affect you and your tribe that you should be aware of?

Expansion! Become a Visionary by Expanding or Building a Tribal Casino into a Complete Integrated Multi-Use Venue
- With increased competition causing market saturation, tribes need to differentiate their properties from competitors in their respective markets to stay relative.
- How do multi-generational preferences play into the architect’s vision when designing the property or renovation?
- We will hear about recent projects that incorporated the latest design technology and principals. What feature had the greatest impact on the overall guest experience, creating the best ROI?
- How using indigenous materials, natural landscape formations and cultural stories to scale allows the tribe to feel the connection with the property but at the same time not take away from the overall design that customers are looking for.
- How to infuse your tribe’s history into the design with a story that is reflective of the culture.
- With skill-based games heading toward tribal facilities, the desire for additional table games and taking into effect how patrons interact with each other, the design of the casino floor is imperative.
